"Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love" Brené Brown

Anxiety is a normal response to danger, the body’s automatic fight-or-flight response that is triggered when you feel threatened, under pressure, or are facing a challenging situation, such as an exam, financial or relationship difficulties or stress at work. Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time and anxiety can help you to stay alert and focused and motivate you to take action. For many, however, anxiety is experienced constantly every day and starts to affect daily life, relationships, work, school and overall physical and mental health. This is an anxiety disorder as opposed to normal anxiety.

I work with a wide range of anxiety disorders including:

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder

  • OCD

  • Social Anxiety

  • Health Anxiety

  • Panic Attacks

  • Phoebias

  • Stress

I can work with you or your child to help you to:

  • Understand what anxiety is and the mental and physical impact on your body

  • Identify anxiety or panic attack triggers and minimise their effect

  • Manage anxiety so that you are able to feel in control of it, rather than the other way round

  • Change automatic thought, behaviour and physical symptoms which feed anxiety cycles

  • Learn stress reduction techniques such as Mindfulness to better manage the physical symptoms

  • Develop individual coping strategies to better manage stressful situations

  • Build a set of tools and techniques to help you to effectively prevent or manage any future anxiety

Research indicates that low self-esteem and low confidence are often at the root of anxiety disorders. You may have a low opinion of yourself, constantly compare yourself to others and have a general feeling of not being good enough or liked by those around you. You may set yourself very high standards and  blame yourself when things go wrong. You may feel drawn to the wrong type of people, who mistreat you or criticise you and you may feel that you don't belong anywhere.

I can work with you to understand:

  • Where your self-doubt comes from

  • Why the negative voice in your head is so strong and constantly producing critical thoughts

  • How to develop a more positive internal voice which is able to offer self-compassion and self-care

  • Who the 'real you' is and the person you want to be within your relationships

  • Which of your relationships are the ones you want to change and which do you want to maintain
